Then, on the Sunday, Steve Clamp is heading over to Wigan FC, where he’ll join up with the 2022 MND Walkathon team to finish the challenge by walking through to Anfield, Liverpool.

On Saturday, 6th April our Academy sessions are back up and running from 10am -12, just turn up and give it a bowl.

These sessions are FREE and OPEN to all abilities. We welcome anyone from aged 5 to 105.

If you’ve never picked up a bowl or you play 5 nights a week then there will be something in these sessions for you.

Encouraging Schools to play bowls.

When we established the Philip Wright Crown Green Bowling Academy in 2012, one of our key aims was to encourage children to play bowls. Over the last 12 years, we’ve done lots of sessions with local schools, both at their schools and at our base in Alkincoats Park, but today we have taken a massive step towards delivering our aims.

With the backing of our Trustees, today we’ve donated (and delivered) almost £10,000 worth of children’s bowling equipment to 12 primary schools in, and around Colne. The ‘Bowls Buddies’ kits will be used by the children and teachers, with plenty of fun coaching sessions being provided by our team of qualified volunteers. Later this year, all of the primary schools will attend a ‘Festival of Bowls’ at Alkincoats Park, supported by Fiona Callaghan and the Pendle School Sports Partnership.

Bowls is a sport that can be played by people of any age and background…..and it really is a multi-generational sport. We firmly believe that by supporting the children of Colne (and their schools) that we can help to offer additional sporting opportunities to everyone in our town
